Crews respond to residential and commercial fires in Loris, Atlantic Beach, and Conway
Horry County, SC — Horry County Fire Rescue crews handled several structure fire incidents across the county between Friday night and Saturday afternoon, including responses in Loris, Atlantic Beach, and Conway. All incidents were brought under control, and no injuries were reported.
On Friday, August 14, lanes of East Highway 9 Business near Liberty Church Road in Loris were blocked as firefighters responded to a residential structure fire on the 2000 block of East Highway 9 Business. Flames and smoke were showing upon arrival. The residence sustained heavy fire damage, and three cats were rescued.
Four people were displaced and were offered assistance from the American Red Cross of South Carolina. Horry County Police Department, South Carolina Highway Patrol, and Loris Fire Department assisted. The cause of the fire remained under investigation.
On Saturday, August 15, crews were dispatched at 10:38 p.m. to a commercial structure fire on the 2000 block of South Highway 17 in Atlantic Beach. Fire was showing upon arrival, but the incident was quickly contained. Firefighters extinguished a small electrical fire in the business’s exterior sign, with no extension inside the building. No injuries were reported, and the cause remained under investigation.
Earlier that afternoon, at 3:42 p.m., Horry County Fire Rescue responded to a residential structure fire on Long Leaf Pine Drive in Conway. Smoke was showing upon arrival, and the incident was placed under control. The residence sustained attic damage from an apparent lightning strike. No injuries were reported, and no displacement was expected. This was one of several lightning‑related fire calls reported across Horry County during the afternoon.
