Public Notice: Emergency Medical Coverage in the Nakina Rescue District

Columbus County, NC — Nakina Fire & Rescue is issuing this public notice to update residents on emergency medical services coverage within the Nakina Rescue response district. Following approval by the Columbus County Board of Commissioners, the district continues to be served by Nakina Rescue’s 24/7 staffed ambulance, operating at the AEMT (Advanced Life Support) level, along with a Paramedic Quick Response Vehicle (QRV) owned and staffed by Tabor City Emergency Services and stationed at the Old Dock Fire Department.

The Nakina Rescue district includes the communities of Old Dock, Cypress Creek, Lee’s Lake, Crusoe, Nakina, Bug Hill, Olyphic, Pireway, Dulah, Guideway, and Dothan, as well as surrounding areas.

 

Current High‑Priority Response Plan

To ensure the fastest possible response and the highest level of care for high‑priority dispatched calls, the following response structure is currently in place:

High‑priority calls in the Nakina Rescue & Old Dock Fire District
– Nakina Rescue (ALS Ambulance)
– Old Dock Fire (First Responder Response)
– QRV (Paramedic)

High‑priority calls in the Nakina Fire & Rescue District
– Nakina Rescue (ALS Ambulance)
– Nakina Fire (manpower, as needed)
– QRV (Paramedic)

High‑priority calls in any other fire district covered by Nakina Rescue
– Nakina Rescue (ALS Ambulance)
– That district’s fire department (manpower, as needed)
– QRV (Paramedic)

Multiple agencies continue to work together every day and night to ensure residents receive the highest level of emergency medical care possible. Nakina Fire & Rescue extends its appreciation to the Columbus County Board of Commissioners for voting to extend the QRV contract, and to all partnering agencies for their ongoing cooperation, teamwork, and dedication to serving the people of Columbus County.
