HORRY COUNTY, SC — Horry County Fire Rescue (HCFR) crews responded to three significant incidents over the weekend, including a watercraft collision on the Waccamaw River and two separate crash responses on major roadways.
Bucksville Landing Watercraft Collision – Saturday, August 8
HCFR responded at 6:43 p.m. Saturday to a watercraft collision on the Waccamaw River near Bucksville Landing. Two boats were damaged after colliding, and 4 people were transported to the hospital with injuries. The scene was brought under control shortly after crews arrived.
The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources is investigating, with assistance from the Horry County Police Department.
Highway 17 Bypass Two‑Vehicle Crash – Saturday, August 8
Earlier Saturday morning, HCFR was dispatched at 10:18 a.m. to a two‑vehicle crash on Highway 17 Bypass near Harbour Towne Drive. Northbound lanes were blocked after one of the vehicles overturned. One person was transported to the hospital with injuries.
South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating, and Myrtle Beach Police Department assisted at the scene.
Old Highway 31 Entrapment Crash – Sunday, August 9
A single‑vehicle crash early Sunday morning blocked all lanes of Old Highway 31 near the Danny Knight Boating Facility in Longs. HCFR was dispatched at 2:21 a.m. after the vehicle struck a guardrail, leaving an occupant entrapped. Crews performed extrication operations. Critical injuries were reported, and three people were transported to the hospital.
South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating, with assistance from the Horry County Police Department.
