Tar Heel NC – Bladen County Sheriff’s Office, DSS and DA’s Office investigating; two dogs removed from home
A 6-month-old infant is dead after being mauled by a dog at a Tar Heel home Friday afternoon, and the Bladen County Sheriff’s Office says criminal charges are possible.
Deputies responded to the residence at approximately 4:45 p.m. Friday. The infant did not survive the attack. The child’s name and the home’s address have not been released by authorities.
Animal Control removed two dogs from the home following the incident. It has not been determined whether both animals were involved in the attack.
The case is being jointly investigated by the Bladen County Sheriff’s Office, the Department of Social Services and the District Attorney’s Office.
District Attorney Jon David confirmed his office is aware of the incident and is in contact with law enforcement, but cautioned that DA involvement does not guarantee criminal charges will be filed.
“Any charges would be determined by the findings of the ongoing investigation,” David said.
The breed of the dog or dogs involved has not been released, and investigators have not said what relationship the animals had to the household.
This is a developing story. Additional information is expected to be released as the investigation continues. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Bladen County Sheriff’s Office.
