Two Men Arrested After Theft and Break‑In Investigations

WHITEVILLE — Two men wanted on outstanding warrants were taken into custody July 27 after deputies located them on Lumberton Road, according to Columbus County Sheriff’s Office reports.

Deputies responded to the 1100 block of Lumberton Road after receiving information that Jonathan Grainger, 24, and Jonathan Andrew Rose, 42, were on the property and both were wanted. Grainger was detained immediately, and Rose was located a short time later. Both men were transported to the sheriff’s office, where they were served with their warrants.

Grainger, who told deputies he was homeless, was charged with misdemeanor larceny and held under a secured bond. According to Whiteville Police Department reports and social media posts, Grainger was identified as the suspect who allegedly took a bag of onions from outside Ward’s Grill in Whiteville on July 27.

Rose, whose age was not listed, was charged with five counts each of breaking and entering and larceny, along with felony larceny and felony conspiracy. Details of Rose’s warrants were not immediately available.

Both cases remain under investigation.
