Columbus County Communities Unite for National Night Out Tonight

Columbus County – Tonight, neighborhoods across Columbus County will join thousands of communities nationwide in celebrating National Night Out.

Held annually on the first Tuesday of August, National Night Out is a community-building campaign designed to promote police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie. The goal of the initiative is simple: make our local areas safer, more caring places to live by breaking down barriers and allowing citizens and law enforcement to interact in a positive, stress-free environment.

Instead of meeting under emergency circumstances, National Night Out provides a block-party atmosphere where officers and residents can share a meal, play games, and get to know one another.

Both the Whiteville and Chadbourn Police Departments are hosting free, family-friendly events this evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Here is everything you need to know to get involved in tonight’s festivities:

Whiteville Police Department Event

Where: Whiteville Police Department Station (117 East Columbus Street)
When: 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
What to Expect: The Whiteville event will feature a lively block party atmosphere complete with free food, music, and games.
Community Focus: Attendees will have the chance to meet local police officers, first responders, and emergency personnel. Officers will be handing out giveaways and providing valuable safety resources to help keep local families informed and protected.

Chadbourn Police Department Event

Where: Chadbourn Town Hall (602 North Brown Street)
When: 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
What to Expect: Chadbourn’s gathering is heavily focused on kid-friendly fun. Children can enjoy a bounce house, face painting, and a hands-on “Touch-A-Truck” experience with local emergency vehicles.
Community Focus: The event will feature free food and give residents a relaxed, welcoming setting to fellowship with their neighbors and the officers who patrol their streets.

Residents across the county are encouraged to turn on their porch lights, step outside, and spend the evening connecting with their communities. Both local events are entirely free and open to the public.
