SUNSET BEACH, NC — A waterspout developed just before 5:35 p.m. Saturday off the Sunset Beach shoreline. The rotating column of air remained over open water and did not track toward the beach.

The waterspout formed along a broken line of storms moving down the Brunswick County coast, sounding a special weather statement from NWS Wilmington that a waterspout was approaching Sunset Beach NW at 20 mph.
No impacts were reported in Sunset Beach, Bird Island, or nearby communities, and the formation dissipated quickly.
