Riegelwood Woman Charged After 100‑MPH Chase Through Work Zone, Closed Highway

RIEGELWOOD — A Riegelwood woman is facing a long list of charges after deputies say she led them on a 100‑mile‑per‑hour chase that tore through a work zone, a closed highway, and even into oncoming traffic.

Tori Vanette Langdon, 23, of 90 J. Bennerman Drive, was arrested July 29 after a Columbus County Sheriff’s Office deputy spotted her driving a vehicle that had been reported stolen on N.C. 87. When the deputy attempted a traffic stop, warrants say Langdon hit the gas and never looked back.

During the chase, Langdon allegedly pushed the stolen vehicle past 100 mph, barreling 80 mph through an active work zone. Deputies say she then steered into the wrong lane, driving head‑on into oncoming traffic, before weaving around barricades and barrels to enter a closed section of highway.

The pursuit ended only when deputies forced the vehicle to a stop. According to the warrants, Langdon resisted the arresting deputy and was found to be unlicensed at the time of the chase.

Langdon was charged with larceny of a motor vehicle, fleeing to elude arrest, driving on a closed highway, speeding in a work zone, lane violations, resisting a public officer, and multiple other traffic offenses. She is being held in the Columbus County Detention Center under a $100,000 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in court August 13.
