SUNSET BEACH, N.C. — Town officials are encouraging residents to take part in the community’s Mosquito Reporting and Prevention Program as seasonal mosquito activity increases across Sunset Beach. The initiative combines town‑managed spraying with resident‑driven prevention efforts aimed at reducing mosquito populations in neighborhoods throughout the area.
The town’s Mosquito Control Program allows residents to submit spray requests online through the Mosquito Prevention page on the town website. The form can be accessed HERE. Residents seeking assistance may also contact Public Works at 910.579.6297 ext. 1002
In addition to spray requests, Sunset Beach provides free mosquito briquettes to residents. The briquettes, which help control mosquito larvae in standing water, are available at Town Hall at 700 Sunset Blvd. N. during regular business hours.
The town’s prevention guidance emphasizes simple steps residents can take to limit mosquito breeding sites. Officials recommend emptying standing water from buckets, toys, plant saucers, tarps, gutters, and birdbaths; removing containers that collect rainwater; covering rain barrels and trash cans; treating undrainable water with briquettes; wearing EPA‑registered repellent; and maintaining yards by trimming grass and clearing debris where mosquitoes rest.
Town officials say community participation remains essential to keeping mosquito populations manageable. The program encourages residents to report concerns promptly and follow prevention practices to support town‑wide efforts.
