Lake Waccamaw, NC — A 9‑year‑old girl was injured this past Sunday evening after being struck by a vehicle along Canal Cove Road in Lake Waccamaw, according to Lake Waccamaw Police.
July 26, Officers were called to the 1500 block of Canal Cove Road around 5:30 p.m. after the child was stuck by a 2014 BMW driven by Pamela Ann Ashenfelter. Police said the young lady had stepped out from a blindspot into the roadway just before the accident.
Ashenfelter’s vehicle was traveling at or below the posted speed limit and that the driver likely could not see the child before impact. The driver remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation.
The child was transported by EMS to Columbus Regional Healthcare System for treatment. She suffered non life threatening injuries to her leg and foot.
All individuals involved are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
