More than 540,000 Ascent, Forester, and Crosstrek Hybrid models are affected

RECALL:  Subaru is recalling more than half a million vehicles nationwide after discovering that some models were built with an incorrect rear‑axle weight rating printed on the certification label, a violation of federal safety standards.

The recall, filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in early July, affects 2019–2026 Ascent, 2025–2026 Forester, 2025–2026 Forester Hybrid, and 2026 Crosstrek Hybrid models. Subaru reported the issue to federal regulators on July 7, noting that the misprinted Gross Axle Weight Rating could lead owners to unintentionally overload the vehicle. Overloading increases crash risk, though Subaru says the issue is limited to the printed label and does not involve any mechanical defects.

Federal documents show the incorrect information appears on the rear‑axle GAWR portion of the certification label. Subaru says owners will receive corrected labels by mail beginning August 25. Dealers can install the updated label at no cost, and remedy labels are expected to be fully available by January 2027.
