TABOR CITY SENIOR CITIZEN FALLS VICTIM TO DISASTROUS $6,500 GIFT CARD SCAM

TABOR CITY, NC:  An elderly Chadbourn resident has suffered a severe financial blow following a sophisticated phone scam. Deputy Cail L. Brown met with the victim, Howard Brent Bullock, at a residence on Roseland Road. Bullock reported that anonymous scammers coerced him into purchasing a massive volume of commercial Gift Cards totaling $6,500 in value and transmitting the secure redemption codes over the phone. The Sheriff’s Office financial crimes unit has assumed control of the investigation under charges of 90Z – Fraud, and they are reminding residents that no legitimate business or government agency will ever demand payment via gift cards.
