Community fundraiser launched after Whitney family loses home in July 4 Belville fire

Brunswick County, NC — A Belville family of four was displaced Saturday evening after a large house fire on Esthwaite Drive in the Hawkeswater at the River neighborhood. Fire crews were dispatched shortly after reports of heavy smoke and visible flames coming from the residence.
The blaze caused extensive damage throughout the home. Two adults and two children were displaced as a result of the fire. No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire has not yet been released.
Local residents shared their concern as emergency crews arrived on Esthwaite Drive. Emily S., posted on social media, that she had just returned home when she heard the first sirens.
“I had just gotten home from visiting family out of town. I came inside and closed the doors when I heard the sirens start. My prayers are with everyone affected.”
Her message reflects the immediate shock felt throughout the Hawkeswater at the River neighborhood as word spread that a family had lost their home.

The fundraiser was created by Brooke Robinson of Leland, NC, who noted the family’s immediate need for stability and support following the fire.
