NC and SC hunger‑relief networks preparing for incoming shipments tied to egg price‑fixing case

By Coastal Carolina News Staff Writer

Food banks across North Carolina and South Carolina are preparing to receive donated eggs as part of a multistate settlement resolving allegations that several major producers manipulated national wholesale pricing between 2022 and 2025. The settlement includes 53 million eggs earmarked for hunger‑relief organizations in the 17 participating states, with both Carolinas confirmed to receive allocations.

In both states, distribution is expected to move through the established hunger‑relief networks, including the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina, Lowcountry Food Bank, and Harvest Hope Food Bank, which routinely handle large perishable shipments and manage most statewide logistics. These hubs will move eggs to church‑connected pantries, community kitchens, senior‑nutrition programs, mobile food distributions and school‑based food‑assistance sites.

Food‑bank officials expect distribution to begin once logistics are finalized. Eggs will be distributed in refrigerated pallets and incorporated into both regular pantry pickups and mobile outreach events.

For communities across the Carolinas, particularly rural areas where grocery access is limited, the donated eggs will provide a high‑protein staple during a period when food costs remain elevated. Hunger‑relief partners say the settlement will help stabilize supply during months when donations typically dip.
