CONWAY, SC — Downtown Conway is set for a series of vital infrastructure upgrades as the City prepares to break ground on a construction project along Laurel Street this July. The work will focus on the block between 3rd Avenue and 4th Avenue, aiming to modernize the area’s aging utility systems and improve street-level accessibility.
Recognizing the importance of downtown commerce, the City of Conway has announced that construction crews will operate primarily overnight. Work is scheduled to take place between 9:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. to ensure local businesses can operate during the day without the burden of heavy construction noise or blocked entrances.
”These improvements are designed to strengthen the infrastructure that serves our historic downtown, improve drainage, and support businesses and visitors for years to come,” city officials noted in a recent announcement.
The project addresses both hidden and visible infrastructure, including: Storm water management installation of updated piping and new catch basin structures. Utility upgrades for critical repairs and improvements to water/sewer lines and surface repairs with full replacement of existing pavement, sidewalks, and curbing.
Construction is slated to begin in early July, with an expected completion date of September 30. By wrapping up the project by the end of September, the City of Conway aims to have all roadway and sidewalk improvements finished well before the start of the region’s busy fall tourism season and the winter holiday rush.
City representatives are currently working one-on-one with business owners located in the affected zone. These discussions are focused on maintaining access for customers and ensuring that the project’s impact on daily operations is kept to a minimum.
