Surfside Beach Fire Department responds; animals located inside, cause under investigation

Surfside Beach Fire Department responded Thursday, June 25 to a reported structure fire on North 16th Street. Rescue 56 arrived to find light smoke coming from the eaves of the home. Crews made entry, located several animals inside, and found an active fire in a bedroom.
Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire and completed overhaul and ventilation operations. Engine 56 and Tower 56 also responded, with Engine 56 covering the town during the incident.
Horry County Fire Rescue and Murrells Inlet–Garden City Fire District assisted at the scene. Fire Marshal Williams is conducting the investigation into the cause of the fire.
