Horry County Police Department officers joined volunteers and partner agencies today to help build a backyard playset for Ethan, a 9‑year‑old Horry County child currently undergoing treatment for Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.

The project was organized through the Roc Solid Foundation, a nonprofit that provides playsets and other support to families facing childhood cancer. Officers worked alongside county and state partners to construct the new playset at Ethan’s home.

While the structure itself is made of wood, hardware, and slides, the department said the goal goes far beyond construction. For children undergoing long-term medical treatment, having a safe place to play at home offers moments of normalcy, joy, and the chance to simply be a kid.

Families navigating childhood cancer often face challenges that extend far beyond medical care. Programs like this aim to give children and their families a space to create positive memories during an extremely difficult time.

HCPD expressed gratitude for the opportunity to support Ethan and his family and to serve the community in a way that extends beyond traditional law enforcement duties.
