Oak Island Issues Traffic Notice for June 26 Funeral Procession Honoring Chief Drone Pilot Shawn Barry

OAK ISLAND, N.C. — On Friday, June 26, at 10:00 a.m., Oak Island Public Safety personnel will join multiple first responder agencies from surrounding communities in a funeral procession honoring Chief Public Safety Drone Pilot Shawn Barry.

The procession will begin and end at Generations Church, located at 4019 Executive Park Blvd. in Southport. A memorial service is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.

Procession Route

The procession will:

  • Enter NC 211 / Southport Supply Road SE and travel west
  • Turn south onto NC 906 / E.F. Middleton Blvd.
  • Continue east along E Oak Island Drive through the island portion of town
  • Travel north on NC 133 / Long Beach Road
  • Return to NC 211 and conclude at Generations Church

Traffic Impacts

Drivers should expect:

  • Full traffic stops along the route as the procession passes
  • Limited services at Oak Island Town Hall between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., as many staff members attend the memorial
  • Slow-moving traffic through the island portion of town between approximately 10:15 a.m. and 10:45 a.m.
  • Congestion on side streets, as community members gather along E Oak Island Drive

Town officials ask residents and visitors for patience as agencies from across the region come together to honor an active first responder for a lifetime of service.
