Initiative offers free wellness calls for residents living alone or with medical conditions

Southport, NC — The Southport Police Department has introduced its new “We Care” Calling Program, a free service designed to promote safety and peace of mind for community members who live alone or have medical conditions that could require assistance. The program provides scheduled phone calls from officers to check on participants’ well‑being.

Participants can choose the time they’d like to receive their calls. If officers are unable to reach someone, they will follow up to ensure the individual is safe. Applications for the program can be completed in person or over the phone.

A caring community is a safer community.

The initiative aims to reduce isolation and loneliness, support early intervention, and potentially save lives. It’s part of the department’s broader effort to strengthen community connections and encourage independence among residents.

Anyone interested in joining or referring someone to the program can contact the Southport Police Department at 910.457.7911
