No, it wasn’t just your FB app, or your PC needed an update…Users globally faced unexpected logouts and feed errors as Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger went dark for over an hour on Friday morning.
Social media users across the globe faced significant disruptions this morning, Friday, June 12, as a widespread outage impacted Meta’s primary platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger. Reports began flooding in around 9:30 a.m. ET, with peak activity on outage-tracking services showing more than 120,000 users experiencing issues with Facebook alone.
The disruption appeared to be site-wide, affecting both desktop and mobile versions of the platforms.
Common complaints from users included being unexpectedly logged out of their accounts, persistent login failures, blank screens, and an inability to refresh feeds or view content. Similar technical difficulties were reported by users attempting to access Instagram and Threads, while Meta’s business services also saw impact, with the company’s status page noting “high disruptions” for Facebook Ads Manager throughout the morning.
Meta spokesperson Andy Stone acknowledged the situation via X, stating that the company was aware of the trouble users were having and was actively working on a resolution. While Meta did not specify the technical cause of the outage, the rapid nature of the reports and the global scope suggested a backend system issue rather than a regional or device-specific problem.
By approximately 10:40 a.m., reports indicated that services were beginning to stabilize for the majority of users. While some individuals continued to encounter intermittent lag or access issues throughout the late morning, the primary platforms appeared to be back online for most of the public.
