NAKINA — A Nakina man is being held without bond after deputies say he attacked a woman and stole property during a violent overnight encounter in Whiteville early Monday morning.

SKYLER RAY LONG, 21, of 135 Lettie and Lennox Road, Nakina, was arrested at 3:18 a.m. on June 8 and booked into the Columbus County Detention Center on felony assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and common‑law robbery, according to jail records. Both charges are listed as felony / awaiting trial, and Long remains in custody.

Deputies responded to 803 Washington Street after a report of an assault involving personal weapons. The incident report lists Lt. Steven Nobles as the responding officer and identifies Quiaja George, 33, as the victim. The report notes that George sustained injuries consistent with the assault charge.

Investigators say Long used his hands and fists during the attack, classified under “personal weapons,” and that the incident also involved damage to personal property. The case was logged under Incident No. 26‑1284.

Common‑law robbery in North Carolina is defined as taking property from another person by force or intimidation. Combined with the assault charge, the offenses carry potential prison sentences exceeding ten years if convicted.

Long’s arrest marks one of several violent felony cases booked during the June 8–11 reporting period, which also included two other serious assault arrests in Whiteville and Nakina.

The investigation remains active, and court proceedings are pending in Columbus County Superior Court.

All individuals listed are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
Charges and case statuses may change as investigations and court proceedings continue.
