LAKE WACCAMAW — Boys & Girls Homes of North Carolina will host the Columbus County Day of Hope on Saturday, June 13, offering a full day of free services, activities, and family‑focused support at the organization’s Lake Waccamaw campus.
The event runs 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 400 Flemington Drive and is open to all Columbus County children and families. No appointments or identification are required.
Organizers say the Day of Hope is designed to remove barriers to care while giving families a safe, welcoming place to connect with resources. The event is part of BGHNC’s long‑standing mission to support children who have experienced trauma and to strengthen families across southeastern North Carolina.
“This is about meeting families where they are and making sure every child in Columbus County has access to the services they need,” the organization said. “We want this to be a day of support, encouragement, and community.”
The Day of Hope will feature a backpack giveaway from 10 a.m. to noon, free physical exams, and the Lions Vision Van providing free eye screenings. Local law enforcement and first responders will participate in a Touch‑A‑Truck showcase, and the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office will operate a child fingerprinting safety station.
Additional attractions include the BTS race car, children’s activities, food trucks, entertainment, and educational exhibitors offering information on health, safety, and family services.
Boys & Girls Homes, founded in 1954, serves children from across North Carolina through residential care, education at Thomas Academy, counseling, and community‑based programs. Events like the Day of Hope help connect families with resources while highlighting the organization’s role in child welfare and community support.
