Safety initiative urges residents to act early as officials stress that early detection saves lives
North Whiteville, NC — The North Whiteville Volunteer Fire Department has launched a district‑wide safety initiative providing free smoke detectors to eligible households, part of a broader effort to strengthen fire preparedness and reduce preventable home‑fire tragedies.
The program centers on a simple message: early detection saves lives and working smoke alarms remain one of the most effective tools for alerting families to danger, giving them precious time to escape.
Residents who participate will receive free detectors installed directly by department personnel.
Installations must be completed by June 12, 2026, and the offer is limited to households located within the North Whiteville Volunteer Fire Department District.
The department focused on three safety priorities — Protect your home, your family, be prepared and safe.
The initiative reflects their ongoing mission of working together, building a safer community, and serving with pride.
To schedule an installation, residents can contact the department through its Facebook page or by calling 910.778.1651
