The Town of Lake Waccamaw will celebrate its 250th anniversary on July 4 with a public opening of the community’s 1976 time capsule. The Independence Day event highlights the theme “Honoring our past. Celebrating our present. Inspiring our future,” tying the town’s milestone to the nation’s 250 years.

The time capsule opening begins at 10:00 a.m. in front of Town Hall, where a patriotic program will lead into the unveiling of items sealed 50 years ago. Residents and visitors are invited to gather for the ceremony and witness the contents preserved since the nation’s bicentennial.

A reception will follow at the Lake Waccamaw Depot Museum. Guests can view the items removed from the capsule, explore the museum, and enjoy refreshments. Ice cream, cookies, and water will be served as part of the gathering.

The celebration is open to the public.
