CID Detectives Make Series of Arrests in Ongoing Columbus County Investigations

COLUMBUS COUNTY, N.C. — The Columbus County Sheriff’s Office says its Criminal Investigative Division has made a series of arrests in recent weeks as detectives continue working a wide range of felony and misdemeanor cases across the county.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, CID investigators have secured charges in cases involving violent offenses, financial crimes, child abuse allegations, and property-related incidents. Sheriff Rogers said the arrests reflect the division’s ongoing effort to protect residents and hold offenders accountable.

“These recent arrests highlight the tireless work of our CID team in addressing crime and delivering results for the people of Columbus County,” Rogers said. “We will continue to pursue every lead to ensure accountability and peace of mind for all residents.”

Violent and Weapon-Related Offenses

  • James Willie Smith – Possession of a firearm by a felon
  • Dale Malpass – Five counts of assault on a law enforcement officer with a firearm; discharging a weapon into an occupied dwelling; possession of a firearm by a convicted felon; resisting, delaying, or obstructing an officer
  • Sallie Hewett – Five counts of assault on a law enforcement officer with a firearm; discharging a weapon into an occupied dwelling; resisting, delaying, or obstructing an officer
  • Pasiano Hernandez – Assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill
  • Joshua Wade Williamson – Assault on a female; failure to appear; habitual felon indictment
