CHADBOURN — A Chadbourn woman was arrested Thursday after warrants accused her of assaulting a disabled individual during an incident on Third Avenue.
RUTH ANN HAYNES, 57, of Third Avenue, was taken into custody on charges of felony assault on a disabled person and assault and battery, according to warrants and Columbus County Detention Center reports.
Deputies served the warrants Thursday afternoon. Haynes was processed at the Detention Center and released roughly 30 minutes later after posting a $2,500 secured bond, jail records show.
Details of the alleged assault, including the condition of the victim and circumstances leading to the charges, were not included in the initial reports. Felony assault on a disabled person is a Class F felony under North Carolina law and carries enhanced penalties due to the victim’s protected status.
The case will be scheduled for an upcoming court appearance in Columbus County District Court.
All individuals listed are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
Charges and case statuses may change as investigations and court proceedings continue.
