Suspect Arrested After Robbery at North Whiteville Dollar General

Coordinated response between Columbus and Robeson County officers leads to swift apprehension following pursuit.

Whiteville, NC — A suspect is in custody after a robbery Wednesday afternoon at the Dollar General in the North Whiteville community.

According to Sheriff W. A. Rogers, the incident occurred around 4:00 p.m. on May 6, 2026. Patrol deputies and investigators with the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office responded immediately and began developing leads. Early information indicated the suspect was from Robeson County and had fled the area in a vehicle headed in that direction.

A BOLO was issued to surrounding agencies with suspect and vehicle details. As Columbus County CID investigators traveled toward Robeson County, officers with the Lumberton Police Department and deputies with the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office located the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop. The suspect fled, prompting a pursuit within Robeson County.

Law enforcement there quickly coordinated to stop the vehicle and take the suspect into custody without further incident.

The suspect, identified as Terrell Gilchrist, is facing multiple felony charges. Additional details will be released as the investigation continues.

The Columbus County Sheriff’s Office thanked the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office and the Lumberton Police Department for their rapid response and assistance. CCSO states that, all persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
