Event returns with expanded resource fair and panel discussion
OAK ISLAND, NC — Oak Island will host the 2026 Hurricane Conference on Thursday, May 28, offering its annual reminder that “preparedness is better than panic.”
This event is open to the public and will be held in the Council Chambers on the second floor of OKI Town Hall, 4601 E. Oak Island Drive.
Hurricane Resource Fair starts at 5:00 p.m., featuring town departments, response agencies, and private‑sector service vendors. Presentations and a Panel Discussion begin at 6:00 p.m.
Coordinated by the Oak Island Police Department, this year’s conference is expected to be larger than previous sessions, with multiple town departments and partner agencies participating.
Attendees will learn about storm preparation, evacuation procedures, re‑entry, and how the coordination flows with county and state emergency officials.
The Panel Discussion will address common questions about hurricane readiness and response, giving visitors, residents and property owners direct access to town experts ahead of the 2026 Atlantic season.
