Motorcyclist Dies Following High-Speed Pursuit Near Conway

State Troopers Investigate Fatal Weekend Chase in Horry County

CONWAY, SC — A high-speed police pursuit ended in a fatal crash near Conway on Sunday, June 7, leaving one man dead.

According to officials with the South Carolina Highway Patrol, a state trooper attempted to initiate a standard traffic stop on a motorcycle for a speeding violation. Instead of pulling over, the motorcyclist accelerated, initiating a high-speed chase through the area.

The pursuit came to a tragic end when the motorcyclist lost control and crashed. Emergency medical personnel responded to the scene, but the rider succumbed to injuries sustained in the collision.

The Horry County Coroner’s Office was called to the scene and is leading the formal identification process. The identity of the deceased is being withheld at this time pending the notification of next of kin. The South Carolina Highway Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the chase and subsequent crash.
